Republic of Ireland gets serious on tackling Radon

On the 17th January, the draft national radon control strategy was launched at the National Radon Forum in Dublin, Ireland. It is estimated 200 premature deaths per year are a result of exposure to elevated radon concentrations. In its draft strategy the Irish Government plan to shake up awareness for radon in the following 6 areas:

The Energy and Climate secretary Ed Davey announced today that exploratory hydraulic fracturing for shale gas can resume in the UK.

Mr Davey said “Shale gas represents a promising new potential energy resource for the UK. It could contribute significantly to our energy security, reducing our reliance on imported gas, as we move to a low carbon economy”
